Definition of Counselling

Picture
Counselling supports individual change through conversations between the individual and counsellor that explore experiences, thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Counselling allows individuals to openly express their concerns while counsellors listen empathetically, without judgment validating these concerns. An environment is provided emphasizing safety, trust and autonomy to foster self-reflection and self-growth. Through a collaborative process, counselling aims to improve overall well-being.

Counselling provides support and understanding to help individuals increase coping strategies and problem-solving and gain insight into what they would like to be different in their lives. Goals are developed collaboratively, and various therapeutic techniques help individuals move toward their goals, leading to change and a positive impact on daily living. Counselling can address many concerns, including mental health (e.g., stress, anxiety, depression) and relationship issues, improving life satisfaction and balance, supporting life transitions, healing and increasing resiliency.

I apply an integrative and holistic approach to counselling as all individuals' experiences, concerns, and needs will differ. This approach aims to support emotional healing and empower individuals to lead more fulfilling lives.
